Firefox 2.0 Alpha is Upon Us
Monday, March 20, 2006
People have been noticing that Mozilla has released an early alpha build of their next-generation browser, Firefox 2.0. The build is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. While Mozilla has yet to release and official statements about the software, you can expect a much-updated user interface (UI), better bookmarking management, an anti-phishing toolbar, and overall updated security options. These features have yet to be included in the alpha release, you should expect them in the final releases.Alpha releases aren't meant for end users; they are meant for developers to start working on making their software compatible on the new, upcoming release. If you're interested in test it out, or in seeing what's in the future for Mozilla Firefox, this build's for you! However, if you're not interested in possibly buggy software, I suggest you shy away from this build.
Update: Mozilla employee, Asa Dotzler, is writing this isn't the alpha release, although so many other websites and blogs are reporting on it:
Just in case there's anyone reading who doesn't already know this: When we make a new release, we'll say so. Please don't report new releases because someone checks in a change to the user agent or similar. If we're actaully doing a release, we'll announce it. Thanks.Update 2: Mozilla has officially released Firefox 2.0 Alpha.
