Google Pages user creates "Google Paint"
Wednesday, July 19, 2006
An anonymous person, going by the name "Stuart", has posted a proof-of-concept version of Google Paint- Using Google's own personal website service, Google Pages. The prototype offers the basic functionality of other basic drawing tools, such as Microsoft Paint and even goes as far as to allow users to share photos, import images on your computer, and save images (I get error messages when trying to use these features). However, it appears that this prototype doesn't work in Internet Explorer (I'm even having problems actually drawing in Mozilla Firefox). Although "Google Paint" hasn't been taken down by Google, you should head over to test it out while you still can.Comments
WoW!! How did this guy do it using such a limited resource ?
Do you think google will take it down ?

@ Thilak: I have no idea how this guy coded this thing up (All I know is that he didn't use any PHP - Google Pages servers don't allow it) - It was most likely a ton of JavaScript codes. Google has yet to take the site down, but I have feeling it will be gone soon enough.

Wow, that's amazing. I wonder how much time he put into that. The only thing I wish was that the buttons of unimplemented features weren't clickable because it sucked seeing "Unimplemented" pop up at me. I don't know why this would get taken down, is it against their rules?

well it could be that the paint is a frame and it has a page from a different server

@ Siddhartha Gandhi: I just checked the site, and it appears that he isn't using any frames - He's simply using CSS to style the page, and JavaScript for the functionality.

@ Ryan's Life: It could be taken down because it pretends to be a legitimate Google service (Even though the author denies it) and most likely goes against their Terms of Service (TOS):
"It is our policy to respond to notices of alleged infringement that comply with the United States’ Digital Millennium Copyright Act or other applicable law. Any use of Google's trade names, trademarks, service marks, logos, domain names, and other distinctive brand features must be in compliance with this Terms of Service and in compliance with Google's then current Brand Feature use guidelines, and any content contained or reference therein, which may be found..."

The Creator of the Site could have given some other name instead of Google Paint, so that Google won't remove his site.
