Technorati Turns 3 - Launches Major Updates

Monday, July 24, 2006

Popular weblog search engine, Technorati, has redesigned their website in celebration of their third birthday. Although the redesign is a welcomed change, Technorati has also rolled out a new area, "Discover", which will help you find new posts concerning a handful of different topics, including news, technology, sports, business and life. As Michael Arrington points out, this is clearly an attempt to recreate some of the success that Techmeme, a "newspaper of the blogosphere", has achieved. Liz Dunn, a product manager at Technorati, will be releasing some more details on Discover later on in the week.

Technorati has also made some minor changed, including upgrades to the Favorites section and the Popular section (With less emphasis on the link count of the Technorati Top 100 list and more on user favorites). Also, those badly placed advertisements in the search results have been removed (Most search results will now only display one advertisement - Usually a 300x250 flash advertisement). This all comes after Technorati accepted $7.6 million in Series C funding from DFJ and Mobius Venture Capital. Happy birthday Technorati!

The new design makes technorati ever so much more useful. They did a great job with it.

@ Robyn Tippins: Agreed. The older design was hard on the eyes and didn't present the many features Technorati offers.
